Trento does not have any proper airports so train is in that case a good option. In any case it may be high probable that you would have to pass through Verona in order to get to Trento.
Train tickets are quite cheap in Italy if you agree to travel without comfort as most of the students do. In fact when you buy your ticket you have the possibility to book a seat or not, booking a seat will cost you 3 extra euros but at least you have the security of being seated. If not you will do as most passengers do, sitting where you can.
If you go directly to the desk at the gare station they will always charge you by default with a seat so I personnaly advise that you buy it at the Automatic Transfer Machine.
Trenitalia is the train transport provider in Italia: http://www.trenitalia.com/trenitalia.html
Within the city of Trento you will have the possibility to take the bus, this is a quite interesting option if your accomodation is not near the city center such as "San Bartolameo".
Tickets are not sold within buses so you will have to go to the newspapers seller in order to get some.
