Léon: Semester 4

Life in Léon is in general quite cheap.

• Washing clothes

If you are living within the Hurtado Residence where rents are quite high for Spain the laundry is expensive: 8€ for 8 kilos (washed and dryed by mixing colours with the white).

• Lunch

The university of Léon does not have any proper university restaurants like in Germany, France and Italy. To my experience most of the Spanish students like cooking and they will come back home to cook.
In the case of EMBS students most of them go to Dani y Jose which is a restaurant on the campus:

"Dani y Jose" being a restaurant it will be for sure not as cheap as university restaurants but normally you will have enough to eat. First price sandwiches are starting at 2,5€ and good menu will go up to 5 or 6 euros.

• Supermarket

As in Germany you have some cheap supermarkets around the university campus, you can opt for Lidl or Mercadona which are the cheapest or Froitz. You have also the possibility to go for Carrefour but will have for that to go to the city centre.

• Copy services

Printing in black and white is cheap almost everywhere (3,5cts of €) but printing in colour is almost unaffordable (40cts of € per copy) and particularly if you want to print a thesis. The university has its own copy service store.

• Doctor

Going to the doctor is to my souvenir like in France: almost free.

• Haircut

If you go to the hairdresser within the Hurtado residence it will cost you almost nothing. Normal prices for boys are 6€ (you have to fix an appointment before) but if you ask for being cut directly with the hair clipper it will cost you only 3€. I asked how they could live by charging only those small prices, they answered me that they are losing some money with the boys and the students but get money from other clients.

• Bazar

If you need some cheap items that you may do not have by default in your accomodation for example: forks, bed sheets, light bulbs... you can have a look within the Chinese bazar, there are many of them in the city center. Prices are in general very low as well as the quality but it is sometimes convenient.
